 Hokshila (Lakota) means ‘Young man who has proven himself.’ He is a timber wolf and stands 6’3″ on his hind legs. He came to me in 2001 as a 1-1/2 year old cub, and he now weighs in at 130 lbs!  Liberty‘s birthday is 9/11/2000! He is a malamute X gray wolf. He was rescued from the Albuquerque pound in 2005. He was taken away from a neglectful and abusive situation. At the time of his rescue he weighed 48 lbs and was just fur and bones. Today he is healthy and happy and now weighs 93 lbs. He receives vitamins every single day. Liberty is a cancer survivor. Today, he is one healthy boy, even though he has lupus. |
  “Bindi” (Hindi — the focused, one-pointed energy of God), was rescued from the Albuquerque Westside Animal Shelter on February 5, 2010, as his former family drove off to live in California. When I went to see him and complete the rescue, all he did was continue to look for his ‘family’. ONLY when we began to walk to my truck did he begin to focus on me. When I opened the back hatch of the vehicle, he jumped right into his new, happy life. Bindi worships the ground Hozho, the Australian shepherd, walks on. They are inseparable! |
  On Mother’s Day 2010, Animal Protection Agency of New Mexico called and asked if there was room at the Refuge for a new “family member”. We drove 25 miles into Arizona and Silver Bear and her brother, Jake, were rescued. There were 24 animals in all. Six had to be put down, but the other 18 ALL RECEIVED a new lease on life! Silver Bear has a veterinary bill every month of $130. She needs medication to regulate her liver enzymes (as well as her vitamins that she receives every day). Silver Bear was pregnant when I rescued her. She is now fixed just like all of her “family” and had 2 teeth pulled…. all at the age of 12!! Silver Bear and I hope you will consider being her sponsor! She is loving, kind and gentle and would love to meet you! |
